Honoring the Legacy of the 3 Ariki Alliance: A Day of Remembrance and Reflection

Today, the 13th of May, marks a significant moment in the history of Aotearoa, as we remember and honor the legacy of the 3 Ariki Alliance – Tupuna Te Ruki Kawiti, Tupuna Pomare Whetoi, and Tupuna Te Tirarau Kukupa. These esteemed Māori leaders played a pivotal role in the signing of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, New Zealand’s founding document, 183 years ago. As leaders of Ngati Hine, Ngati Manu, and Te Parawhau tribes, they were instrumental in shaping the future of the nation and securing the rights of Māori people.

Transparent Computing, with its founder being a descendant of Pomare Whetoi from Ngati Manu, holds deep respect and admiration for the contributions of the 3 Ariki Alliance. Although we will not be attending the commemorative gathering at the Stone Church in Paihia, we encourage everyone to take a moment today to remember and reflect on the significance of their legacy.

As we pay tribute to these great Māori leaders, we also acknowledge the ongoing influence of their actions on contemporary New Zealand society. Their dedication to upholding Māori rights, values, and traditions serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of preserving cultural heritage for future generations.

On this day of remembrance, let us celebrate the rich history and culture of Aotearoa’s Māori people, and honor the indomitable spirit of the 3 Ariki Alliance. We encourage everyone to learn more about their legacy and the history of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, as we strive to preserve and respect the unique cultural heritage that has shaped our nation.
